First position paper of the “CleanPower Net” innovation cluster focuses on core topics of the “Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection”
A strong industry voice for climate protection and the energy transition in Germany as a business location: First position paper of the “Clean Power Net” innovation cluster focuses on core topics of the “Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection”
- Industry network publishes clear call for the development of sustainable, decentralized energy supply infrastructures.
- National strategies for the decarbonization of stationary and critical applications are to be accelerated.
- The appeal to political decision-makers is to support the market ramp-up of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
(Berlin, April 22, 2024) Tackling climate change and implementing the energy transition require the rapid further development of key energy supply technologies and their prompt application in identified fields of action. The generation of energy based on renewable resources is the top priority, as national energy security guarantees the transformation of the technology and supplier industry and thus the economic stability and sovereignty of Germany as an industrial location.
The “Clean Power Net” (CPN) innovation cluster, which was founded in 2010, has published its first position paper on the status of energy policy challenges in the run-up to this year’s “Hannover Messe” (April 22-26). Accordingly, there is currently great momentum in the portfolio of alternative solution concepts in which players from the wind, solar, hydrogen and fuel cell sectors are cooperating with the support of the German government. The focus here is on building sustainable, decentralized energy supply infrastructures to decarbonize stationary and critical applications more quickly.
Industry network invites you to a productive dialog at Hannover Messe 2024
The immediate, politically motivated task, addressed to the German “Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection” (BMWK), must be to strengthen the decentralized energy storage market and the energy supply market. Examples include stationary applications in heat supply, off-grid energy supply, critical infrastructures such as data centers, signal boxes, emergency power systems, radio and communication systems and combined heat and power generation for residential areas. Above all, tailor-made subsidies are needed to ensure energy storage and off-grid supply and thus achieve the shortest possible target in the context of CO2 neutrality.
Studies show that the building sector alone is responsible for almost 35 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union. The CPN position paper now presented therefore appeals to political decision-makers to consistently implement public incentive and support measures to support the market ramp-up of decentralized systems for the production, storage and use of hydrogen and its derivatives.
With regard to Germany’s decarbonization strategies for achieving climate protection targets, the industry network is calling for an unequivocal commitment and a clear industrial policy framework for the future of hydrogen technologies. In particular, the 32 signatories of the position paper, including the 17 CPN industry partners, are pushing for productive dialog. In this regard, the CPN member companies will be present at Hannover Messe 2024 and invite you to discuss the following topics:
- Design of incentives, support measures and optimal framework conditions
- Accelerating the reduction of bureaucracy
- Utilization of the advantages of sector coupling (electricity-heat-waste heat)
- Application of the modular performance potential of decentralized systems
- Establishment of the CPN industry network as an innovation cluster in the BMWK
Appointment requests for exchange and discussion options during the Hannover Messe can be sent to post@cleanpowernet.de.
The entire four-page position paper from March 20, 2024 is available as a free download both on the homepage of Clean Power Net (www.cleanpowernet.de) and in the “Press, Print & Videos” section.
About Clean Power Net
Clean Power Net (CPN) is an open, nationwide and cross-industry association of companies along the entire value chain. Manufacturers and users are working together to realize a climate-friendly, more efficient and therefore more intelligent energy supply for industrial users.
Fuel cells offer numerous technical advantages in power supply compared to conventional solutions. These include high reliability and durability, longer bridging times, lower energy consumption, off-grid applications and locally emission-free energy generation. They are replacing more maintenance-intensive diesel generators – also in combination with photovoltaics – and are used in a wide range of applications.
Clean Power Net aims to expand the potential of fuel cell technology in the industrial and business markets. The network was founded in 2010 and currently has 17 industry partners. Until December 31, 2024, CPN is part of the “Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport” (BMDV) as an innovation cluster via the “National Innovation Program Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology” (NIP Phase II).
